A stone that glows.
By day, a rock you would walk past. Lit from inside by a small flameless light, the lichen comes up.
How it works
There is no paint and no printed image. Only thickness. Where the stone is thin, light gets through; where it is thick, it does not. The lichen, the fossil, the name - all of it is the wall itself, carved thinner from the inside so the outside stays one continuous rock.
Each piece is generated rather than drawn, so no two carry the same colony or the same fracture.
The objects
Lichen
A weathered granite stone on a low charcoal plinth. Lit, patches of map lichen come up as fields of glowing cells. About 80 × 58 × 117 mm.
Ammonite Slab
A split slab of shale with an ammonite in it. A faint impression by day and a suncatcher in a window; lit from behind, the whole shell comes up through the rock.
Nodule
A stone on a cut round of wood. It lifts off to change the light, and what is inside is for the owner to find.

The light
Every piece takes any flameless LED tealight 37.5-38 mm across - the size sold everywhere. One comes in the box, and it is the exact size to buy next time. More about the light, spare cells and run time.

Care
- Tonight
- Dark room, lights off. Give it the darkest corner you have; that is what it was made for.
- Where it lives
- Anywhere dark: a shelf, a bedside, a tent, a step in the snow. Rain runs off it and it stays lit.
- Heat
- Out of direct sun and never above 50 °C / 120 °F. A hot car or a radiator will soften it. Heat is the only thing that can hurt it.
- Changing the light
- It lifts out. Nothing unscrews, nothing unclips.
- Cleaning
- A dry brush, or a barely damp cloth. No solvents, no dishwasher.
